Help

We hope you’ve been falling in love with the Quidity Plus Account so far. But we understand it’s a lot to take in, so we’re always happy to answer any questions you may have. Below are some of the most commonly asked ones, organised by section.

About the Quidity Plus Account

What is a Quidity Plus Account?

The Quidity Plus Account is a payment account that allows you to manage your day to day budget. It is prepaid, which means you load money onto your account, and you can only spend your available budget.

It comes with a sort-code and account number, so you can set up Faster Payments, Standing Orders, Direct Debits and receive your salary into it.

It also comes with a contactless prepaid Mastercard®, which you can use at any location that accepts Mastercard, including ATMs.

What are the benefits of a Quidity Plus Account?

No credit checks

It’s quick and simple for anyone to apply. It’s perfect if you don’t want, or can’t get, a credit or debit card.

No bank account required

It’s not tied to a bank account so you can keep funds completely separate. You can even have your wages transferred directly into your Quidity Plus Account if you wish. See the How it works page for more details on this Load option.

Total control

You can only spend the money you’ve loaded onto your card so you don’t have to worry about going over budget.

Managing your money is even easier with the Quidity Plus Account online MyAccount and Quidity Plus Account app. You can view your balance, load more cash, see your transactions, get balance notifications and set alerts to really keep on top of your spending.

Send money to friends

Your Quidity Plus Account comes with a sort code and account number. Which means you can easily send money to any UK bank account.

Contactless & Chip and PIN technology

Your card is contactless, so when you’re buying on the high street you don’t need to spend time entering your PIN in stores that have contactless payment terminals. Simply tap your card for any amount up to £30 wherever you see the contactless symbol and you’ll be good to go. Your card also has Chip and PIN security which can be used for those payments over £30, or in stores which do not have contactless payment terminals.

Covered for loss and theft

You’re protected if you lose your card or it gets stolen, as long as you report it straight away. Just call us immediately on +44(0)333 700 7010, and we’ll block others from using it. Why not put the number in your phone now? That way you’ll have it at the ready whenever you need it.

Alternatively go into the lost/stolen/damaged section in your Quidity Plus online account and complete the form. If you would like a replacement card, we’ll then transfer your balance onto it and get it sent out to you within 7 to 10 working days. A charge of £5 for the replacement card will be debited from your balance or when you next load.

What is ‘contactless’ payment technology?

Your Quidity Plus Account comes with contactless payment technology for quick and simple purchasing – no more digging in your pocket for spare change.

Simply tap your card for any amount up to £30 wherever you see the contactless symbol.

It’s already available in thousands of shops and restaurants and TFL.

Your card also has Chip and PIN security which can be used for those payments over £30, and also in stores which do not have contactless payment terminals.

The Quidity Plus Account Mastercard only comes in a contactless version, and we don’t issue non-contactless versions.

How much does it cost?

The costs to get and use the card are outlined on our Costs page.

Who is Quidity Plus?

The Quidity Plus Account was created together by the Trinity Mirror Group and Prepay Technologies Ltd. trading as PPS, because we believed everyone should be able to access the benefits of online payments.

What’s the difference between Quidity and the Quidity Plus Account?

The Quidity Plus Account is a full payment account: it comes with a sort-code and account number, allows you to do most things that a normal bank account would allow you to do, but with the added benefit of not having an overdraft.

If you have a Quidity Maestro card, you can apply for a Quidity Plus Account, and get the full benefits of the Quidity Plus Account.

Please note this is not a bank account, this is an e-money account.

Getting a Quidity Plus Account

Who can get a Quidity Plus Account?

Anyone who is a resident of the UK and over the age of 13 can apply for a Quidity Plus Account. If you’re under the age of 18 you’ll need approval from a parent or guardian.

Are there any credit checks?

There are NO credit checks, and we accept nearly everyone who applies for a Quidity Plus Account. But we do need to make sure that you say who you say you are. So we will verify the details you have given us, and in some cases we may ask for proof of address or identity.

Do I need a bank account?

Absolutely not. That’s one of the great things about the Quidity Plus Account – there are no credit checks and no other accounts required to be eligible.

Do I need ID?

In most cases we can verify someone’s identity online, whilst you apply. Sometimes we can’t though. For example if you’re new to the UK. And in those cases we will ask you to send us some further proof of ID or address.

Further ID may also be required if you receive a card with a reduced spending limit and wish to upgrade. However, we have the right to request for your ID at any time. If you’d like to upgrade, we’ll need you to send us certain documents to confirm your identity. Please download the Upgrade form for more information on upgrading your card.

Please note, if you’re given a card with a reduced spending limit and don’t want to go ahead, you can still change your mind. Contact us any time before activating your card, or within 14 days of activating it, and we’ll cancel your card and refund your £5 application fee if applicable and any remaining balance on the card.

How do I pay for my Quidity Plus Account?

There is a £4.95 application fee for the Quidity Plus Account. You can pay for this application fee in a couple of different ways:

By debit/credit card

When you’re at the payment stage of your Quidity Plus Account application, you can pay for your card by debit or credit card. (An additional 4% fee for credit card payments applies.)

Getting started

How long will it take to receive my card?

After you’ve applied for your Quidity Plus Account, your card will be sent straight to your home addresss. This will take approximately 7-10 working days.

I have received my card. What’s next?

In 3 simple steps you’ll be ready to start using your card:

Activating your card

Remove your card from the letter and sign it.

Underneath your card you will find a unique activation code. You can either activate it through the online self service portal, or by calling the number below:

Call +44(0)333 700 7010 and follow the activation instructions.

We’ll give you a 4 digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) over the phone: Make sure you remember this.

Register your card

Click here and follow the instructions. You will then be able to load and manage your account online.

Load it up and start shopping

You can load your card via Quidity Plus Account app, or in the ‘top up account’ section of your online account, at a Post Office® branch or PayPoint outlet.

Your first ever transaction will have to be a Chip & PIN transaction, so you’ll need to use it at a till in a shop. But after that you can use your card anywhere in the world wherever Mastercard® is accepted, including contactless, on the high street, online and over the phone. If you have been given a restricted account, you can still use your card in the UK, for transactions in GBP.

Can I change my PIN?

Yes you can. Just go to an ATM, and go to ‘PIN services’. If you have trouble remembering your PIN, it’s best to change it to something you can remember easily. Like a memorable date, the numbers from your first car’s license plate, the number of stripes on your cat, spots on your dog, your lucky number, the number of trees in your garden… So long as it is 4 digits, and you never, ever, share it with anyone!

I’ve forgotten my PIN

Happens to the best of us. All you have to do is go into your Quidity Plus online account and follow the instructions in the ‘View PIN’ section.

Can I spend more than £30?

If the payment is contactless then £30 is the maximum spend possible per transaction, but you can use your chip and PIN facility to make payments for amounts more than £30.

Not to worry. Simply enter the following details in the app:

  • Card number
  • Date of birth
  • Email address
  • Memorable date
  • Create a username
  • Create a password
  • Create a security question

You only need to do this once and when you’ve finished you’ll have everything you need to get started with the app.

How do I log out of the app?

Just press the home button on your phone and you’ll be logged out of the app. You’ll also be automatically logged out if you leave it open for more than a few minutes. To keep your details safe, the app will ask for your passcode every time you return to it.

Using Quidity services

How do I pay another person?

In your online account, go to the „pay another person’, and follow the instructions. You’ll need their sort-code and account number. It’s quick and easy.

What happens if I send money to the wrong account?

In the UK, bank transfers are directed by sort code and account number. Banks check if the combination of the sort code and account number is valid, but no checks are made against the recipient name. So you have to be very careful that the numbers you enter are the correct details. Once a payment has gone through, it is almost impossible to get the money back.

We’ve added a few features to prevent this from happening as much as possible. For example, you can set up a list of regular payees, like an address book, so you don’t have to type in account details every time you want to send money to someone.

If you did send money to the wrong recipient, please contact us straight away. We’ll do what we can to help.

How do I set up a Direct Debit?

You can fill out a Direct Debit instruction with the organisation you are paying, for example, a utility company or your gym. You can recognise a Direct Debit instruction, as it will ask for your sort code and account number and normally has the Direct Debit logo on it.

What are my rights if a Direct Debit goes wrong? (IE: the wrong amount is taken out)

The Direct Debit Guarantee applies to all Direct Debits. So if something goes wrong with a Direct Debit, please get in touch with us. For a full explanation of the Direct Debit Guarantee, please visit:

https://www.directdebit.co.uk/DirectDebitExplained/pages/directdebitguarantee.aspx

What about cheques?

Quidity Plus is a 21st century, online account, and does not currently accept cheque deposits. Equally, because it’s so easy to make online transfers, we do not issue cheque books.

What happens if there isn’t enough money in the account to pay a Direct Debit or Faster Payment?

Because your account gives you real-time transaction information, we hope that this never happens. However, unfortunately, if there isn’t enough money in your account to cover a payment, the payment will fail. So you will need to keep an eye on your account to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Remember, there is no overdraft.

Fraud and safety

Is my money safe? How do I know I can trust you?

Your card is issued by PrePay Technologies Ltd. We’ve been around for nearly 16 years, and process over £2bn worth of transactions a year.

When you put money into your Quidity Plus Account, it goes into a ring-fenced account. This means we can’t touch it. We can’t invest with it, and we can’t take risks with it, so if we were go bust, you’ll still get all of your money back.

PrePay Technologies Ltd. are a licensed e-money issuer and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. This means we have to adhere to strict rules when it comes to looking after your money. Our FCA registration number is FRN 900010. Feel free to check us out.

And because we’re also fully licensed by Mastercard, we adhere to a whole extra set of rules and regulations which means we look after your money and do our best to keep it safe from fraudsters. When it comes to money, it’s always personal.

I think I’ve been a victim of fraud. What do I do?

We hope it never happens. But if it does, it is important to block your card as quick as possible. You can do this either from your online account, or by telephoning us on +44(0)333 700 7010. We will block the card and send you a new one.

We recommend putting the number in your phone, and keep it handy somewhere.

I can’t remember the PIN you gave me

No problem. You can change your PIN to something more suitable at most ATMs. Just put your card in the machine, and go to ‘PIN services’.

You can change your PIN to anything that means something to you. Some of our favourite recommendations:

  • Your dad’s (or mum’s) birthday
  • Your lucky number
  • The first four digits of your nan’s telephone number
  • The number of stripes on your cat
  • The number of spots on your dog
  • The numbers from your car’s license plate
  • The date you had your first kiss

How do I keep myself safe from fraud?

Firstly, fraud only happens very rarely, and the vast majority of transactions go without a hitch. We do a lot behind the scenes to prevent fraud, and if something looks suspicious, we will try to stop or further investigate a transaction.

But there a few basic things you can do to help too:

  • Firstly, never ever share your PIN, passwords and memorable dates with anyone.
  • Cover your hand and the keypad at ATMs when you enter your PIN.
  • If you use a computer to access your account, make sure it has up to date anti-virus software, and if you’re using an android phone, it’s good practice to use it on there too.
  • Remember we will never ring or email to ask for your card PIN, in fact, we will never ask you for your card PIN.
